Summertime fun should be stimulating

School’s out for the summer and many parents are already wishing it was September again!
Kids crave stimulation and often parents are left scrambling to find interesting and fun activities during the summer months.
Here is my Top 10 list of things to do with your kids this summer:
1. Go on a picnic. Nothing fancy, just grab a blanket and some healthy snacks.
2. Visit the zoo. Winnipeg has one of the best zoos in Canada and a family day pass is only $15.
3. Play sports. Now is a great time to get the kids involved in team sports. Playing on a team builds leadership and social skills.
4. Take a long walk. One of the best forms of exercise there is and something the family can do together.
5. Go for a bike ride. Winnipeg is finally becoming a bike-friendly city as more and more bike paths pop up. Don’t forget your helmets!
6. Go to a farmers’ market. This is a great opportunity to teach your kids about healthy eating and where our food comes from. The St. Norbert Market is open every Saturday and is the biggest market near the city.
7. Make a bug farm. All you need is a mason jar with a lid. They’ll love exploring and digging up creepy crawlers.
8. Do some yard work. It’s a great form of exercise and you could probably use the help anyway. Your kids will never know it was work!
9. Attend a baseball game. We have one of the best ballparks in Canada. Goldeyes tickets are as low as $4 per person.
10. Set up a lemonade stand. A classic!
Also, don’t forget to check the community events section of your local paper (like the one you are reading right now) for upcoming events.
