Bloodthirsty super villain terrorizes Winnipeg
Good thing it’s just a book
Attention Winnipeggers – a beastly and bloodthirsty super villain is on the loose in our fair city.
The suspect, known to officials as Redsaw, can lift more than 1,000 pounds with a single arm, and has the ability to fly at speeds near 200 m.p.h.
Although nothing is clear at this time of chaos and panic, rumours suggest that Redsaw is targeting and killing innocent civilians to gain more and more evil power.
Winnipeg police have so far been helpless against a foe of such devastating proportions, with random killings being reported daily.
The only hope left for this city is the man-in-blue, the one, the only, the Axiom-man.
OK, so this may not exactly be the real world, but it is to A.P. Fuchs and his fans.
Fuchs, from North Kildonan, is the creator of the Winnipeg-based superhero, Axiom-man, and the author of a number of books, including his two latest installments of the Axiom-man saga – Episode No. 0: First Night Out and Axiom-man: Doorway of Darkness.
Both were released July 27.
Fuchs is also the owner of Coscom Entertainment, which publishes a variety of superhero novels.
First Night Out is a prequel to Fuchs’ first Axiom-man novel released last year.
Doorway of Darkness is a followup to this first book, beginning about six hours from where the initial book left off.
“The Axiom-man (alter ego Gabriel Garrison) we meet in the second book is more focused and more confident.
“We also meet a more extremely stressed out superhero,” said Fuchs, adding that in the previous book his character was a little more naive because he had just begun his stint as a superhero.
Axiom-man is again facing the maniacal Redsaw, who once bested Axiom-man, becoming Winnipeg’s favourite man in tights.
But since the fateful day when a car crashed from the Main Street bridge onto a paddle wheel boat, Redsaw has been dedicated to evil.
In Doorway of Darkness, readers will meet a stronger and more deadly Redsaw and experience larger battles, one of which is set in one of Winnipeg’s newest large venues.
Returning in the book are love interest Valerie Vaughan, and hard-edged and untrusting cop, Sgt. Jack Gunn.
Jon Klement, from St. Charles, Mo., said he’s eagerly waiting for a copy of the Doorway of Darkness to land at his doorstep.
Klement is the author of Rush and the Grey Fox, a superhero novel released by Coscom.
“I’ve read three of his books, and I can tell you he’s definitely got a vision of where his characters are going,” said Klement, adding Axiom-man has a different attitude than most cookie-cut superheroes.
“He [Axiom-man] is not completely naive and goodie, goodie, but he’s not dark and anti-heroish,” he said.
Both First Night Out and Doorway of Darkness are available in Winnipeg bookstores and online.
A.P. Fuch will be reading and signing books at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Grant Park Shopping Centre on Aug. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m.
