Ultimate Women’s Show aims to pamper women

Jan. 1, 2009

When Heather Mercer looks into her closet, the only thing she sees is a big mess.

“I have clothes and shoes everywhere,” she says.

“I need to learn how to organize everything.”

That’s why Mercer is looking forward to The Ultimate Women’s Show, April 12 and 13 at Assiniboia Downs.

Offering booths and advice on everything from health and beauty to food and wine, new cosmetic procedures to how to organize your closet, the show is geared solely to women between the ages of 25 to 64.

“And shopping. Which woman does not like to shop?” says show producer Shelly Whyte.

“This is really a lifestyle show for women and all aspects of interest in their lives,” she says.

“It will give them the opportunity to learn, compare and shop in a fun interactive environment.”

Which is just fine with Mercer.

“As a hair stylist, I’m always looking for ways on improving my appearance. I think having an expo like this one is right up my alley,” she said.

Showcasing both local and national businesses, such as the Professional Organizers of Winnipeg and Provici Cosmetics, all booth spaces have been sold out, Whyte says.

“This is the first time Winnipeg will see something this big aimed entirely towards the female demographic,” she adds.

Every other major city in the country has shows similar to this one, Whyte says.

Anthony Polvorosa, Winnipeg spokesperson for Provici Cosmetics, agrees.

“Whenever there is a mecca of women, we want to be there. I think it’s a great way for women to spend the day pampering themselves. It’s going to be like one big informercial.”

The show is being organized by The National Women in Business Expo and is being sponsored by Good Life Fitness and Barefoot Wines.

“Our goal is simple,” Whyte says.

“We want to have all the women of Winnipeg come with high expectations and leave with their expectations met.”

Admission to the show is $5 at the door; tickets are not sold in advance.
