Break and enter in Headingley
Several personal items stolen
Headingley RCMP are continuing to investigate a report of break, enter and theft to an apartment in Headingley Jan. 15.
The theft included several personal items, including video games, cigarettes and a sub-woofer amplifier.
Nearly scammed
Police caution members of the public to be cautious about potential scam letters. Police received a scam letter received by a local resident promising a get-rich-quick scheme Jan. 10.
“These scam artists usually request cash up front or personal information,” said Cpl. Stu Schaffer. “The public are again cautioned never to provide any cash or personal information to anyone unless you’ve done your homework and confirmed that the recipients are legitimate business people. As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
Oak Bluff fire
Police responded Jan. 8 to a structural fire in Oak Bluff. The fire was deemed accidental, and no injuries were sustained.
Liquored up on Elie roads
A resident of Elie was arrested and charged Jan. 13 for driving a motor vehicle over 0.8 per cent, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence and for possessing open liquor in a motor vehicle.
Mistaken crime
A Headingley service station’s concerns about theft of gas proved to be unfounded when it was determined a transaction error was made during an at-the-pump purchase.
Fire in Elie
There were no injuries in a minor house fire that took place in Elie Jan. 10. No significant damage was sustained to the house, and police have deemed the fire accidental.
Vehicle damage
Approximately $1,000 in damage is believed to have taken place during an attempted theft of a vehicle in Oak Bluff Jan. 13.
Open liquor in St. Eustache
Police charged a Fannystelle resident with open liquor in a vehicle in St. Eustache.
Overheated semi
No injuries were sustained in a semi-truck fire that occurred Jan. 15 at Inkster near Route 90. Police believe the fire was caused by overheated brakes, and the extent of the damage is still pending.
Attempted theft
Police received a report Jan. 15 of attempted theft of a vehicle in Oak Bluff. The damage sustained to the parked vehicle is estimated at $400.
Stolen vending machine
Police continue to investigate a report of a stolen vending machine from a business on McGillivray Boulevard Jan. 15. Estimated loss is $1,000.
Lost cell
A local resident reported losing her cell phone while snowmobiling near Headingley Jan. 8.
