Danger: thin ice warn police
Police are warning people conditions on rivers and retention ponds are extremely hazardous and falling through the ice can have tragic consequences.
River Patrol Section members will be placing signs around all outfalls, retention ponds and any other potentially dangerous areas within the city.
Police are also asking parents and teachers to remind their children and students of the importance of all dangers involving cold water and thin ice.
Purse snatching in parking lots
Following a spate of purse snatchings from malls and store parking lots, police have issued a safety reminder to be on guard.
Police said the suspects may be driving through parking lots and searching their victims out.
They then drive by the victim’s vehicle and snatch the purse from the cart as they drive by.
As the busy Christmas season approaches, the police are reminding the public to be vigilant with their bags and purses by placing them in the vehicle before their parcels.
While in a store or mall, police advise to keep hold of bags and to conceal parcels whenever possible.
They also said to be wary of onlookers when withdrawing cash from ATMs.
